Oral History Project

The Oral History Project lies at the heart of the Citizens Archive of Pakistan – the stories emerging from the Project, the secrets behind photographs that are more than fifty years old and the personal experiences of our nation s rich and varied people feeds material in the School Outreach Tours, the Shanaakht Festival and several exhibitions throughout the year.

The Oral History Project concentrates on ordinary people talking about everyday events, something that historical documents and books dont tell us. The Oral History Project lends voice to neglected people on the margins of society – those whose voices have been hidden from history. Oral histories fill in the gaps and present us with an all-inclusive history.

The Project also aims to archive records such as newspapers, letters, official correspondences, refugee cards and passports. We have digitized a significant portion of the nation s newspapers from 1947 which are currently falling into disrepair. It is our mission to preserve them before we lose them forever.

The project is currently running in Karachi and Lahore with plans to begin operations in Islamabad and Peshawar.
