Memories of 1971 Project

The year 2011 will mark the fortieth anniversary of the 1971 war which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The Citizens Archive of Pakistan is working to create an exhibit which will recreate what life was like before and during the civil war. Four decades after the event, visitors will be able to join CAP on a journey of discovery about a seldom-visited part of Pakistan's history. The project will feature clips from oral histories, newspapers, photographs, videos and historical material from our archives. The exhibit, which will be the first of its kind, will transport people to a different time and allow people to hear true stories from 1970-71. For the younger visitors, it will be an eye-opening experience of a Pakistan they never knew and for the older ones, it will recreate a time they lived through in an innovative way.

Call for Material:

CAP is looking to collect as much material as possible from the 1970-71 period. If you would like to nominate someone for an oral history interview, have documents, newspapers or photographs from that time (whether personal or political), or were there yourself and would like to share your experiences, kindly contact us. Your support will play an invaluable role in helping Pakistanis today understand and preserve their history. The Citizens Archive of Pakistan brings the country's past alive and greatly appreciates the individuals who make this possible. To contact us, please email citizensarchive@gmail.com or call 03333127121.
